Grupo Afrocuba de Matanzas : Raices Africanas
This is the definitive Matanzas-style Afro Cuban folklore CD. This album covers a very deverse range of rhythms - Brikamo, Abakwa, Bata, Arara, Palo and the Rumba's - Yambu, Quaguanco, and Columbia. They even throw in a couple of their really awesome Bata-Rumbas, definitely worth listening to. This one is an A++ in my book!

Grupo Afrocuba : Rituales Afrocubanos
This is a very rare recording indeed. I've only seen it for sale at local stores a few times and right now Amazon ships it within 2-3 weeks. There is a great review on Amazon's site about it if you want to hear more about it.
This album features some great palo, a whole entire bata oro cantado from start to finish (this cut is approx. 45 minutes long), and a bit of arara/bantu music. While it's not the greatest recording it's one of very few authentic Matanzas bata, arara, palo albums available. When I bought this album I ended up listening to it over, and over, and over again.. I completely wore the CD out as well as a copy I'd made to cassette and had to get another (which took years to find given the rarity of this album). Definitely buy this one while you have a chance!!!

Los Muñequitos : Ito Eban Echu
(This album is featured in our Los Muñequitos section as well as it features both groups)
This is an album that was recorded in the 70's and was realeased in the 90's. It features 5 tracks by Los Munequitos with legendary singer Saldiguera and 4 tracks by Folklore Mantancero. Folklore Mantancero was later on called AfroCuba de Matanzas. If you want to hear some really awesome old school rumba.. this is it!!! When I first got this CD I listened to Arturo again, and again, and again.. something about those harmonies.. :-)
