Here is a list of Drumming Net's recommended books. It is recommended to work with a qualified instructor in conjunction to learning material from a book. If you spend time practicing the wrong thing (ie. misunderstood something in a book) you'll end up spending a good deal of time un-learning it. If you're already an intermediate/advanced drummer then buy the book, don't worry about having a teacher, and enjoy .. ;-)

The Music of Santeria: Traditional Rhythms of the Bata Drums (Performance in World Music Series, No. 5) -- by John Amira, Steven Cornelius

When I first started learning Bata we purchased this book and worked through most of the rhythms. My friends and I still look back at this book with very fond memories. This book can definitely get you started playing Bata Drums - as long as you have an understanding of rhythm basics and drum sounds. Give this book a shot, myself and a lot of others have gotten started using it.

The Mysticism of Sound and Music (Shambhala Dragon Editions) by Inayat Khan, Hazart Inayat Khan

This excellent book by a Sufi Master is one of the best books I've read concerning spirituality and music. I rarely read a book more then once and I've read this one several times over. I can't recommend it enough. Amazon has a number of the pages from this book listed so you can read the first chapter and see for yourself if you're interested - Click here to view the book and select the 'look inside this book' link under the picture of the cover.
